Hello!
I have some question:
how I can start two routers with GHOST ios image?
With my onfig file only one router starts:
set DRIVE=d:
set ROUTERDIR=\3600

set SIMDIR=\3600
set SIMULATOR=dynamips-wxp.exe

set OPTIONS= -k 16 -r 128 -o 8 -n 256 -c 0x2102 -i 1 -t npe-400 -M "vxr" --idle-pc=0x608435ac
set CARDS= -p 0:C7200-IO-FE -p 1:PA-FE-TX

%DRIVE%

cd %ROUTERDIR%\
start /low /min %SIMDIR%\%SIMULATOR% -G ghost_ram C7200-JK.BIN -T 7201 %OPTIONS% %CARDS% -s 1:0:udp:10001:127.0.0.1:10002

rye> I'd say it's this: http://dyna-gen.sourceforge.net/tutorial.htm#_Toc151700451. Could you experiment a little.....first try the setup with only 3x2 routers, then try another IOS that requiers less RAM

Hi Guys,

First of all i just wanna thank Chris and Greg for this awesome router simulator!!!

Hi have been using this for about 2 weeks now on my Centrino Duo 1.83Ghz with 1 GB RAM and i just upgraded to Dynagen 0.8.2 with Dynamips 0.2.6-RC4-x86. GhostIOS - false

These are the routers i use for my topology:
4 - 7200 routers (c7200-js-mz.124-5b.bin)
4 - 3725 routers (c3725-adventerprisek9-mz.124-3g.bin)

Since i noticed that only 7 routers can accommodate port 7200, i created another instance, port 7201. At first, say the first 30mins to 1 hr, everything is running smoothly, but after that, one of the ports crashes. I get the error message below.

================================================
    689 [unknown (0x8CC)] dynamips 3952 _cygtls::handle_exceptions: Exception: S
TATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION
    582 [unknown (0x974)] dynamips 3952 _cygtls::handle_exceptions: Exception: S
TATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION
  46146 [unknown (0x974)] dynamips 3952 _cygtls::handle_exceptions: Error while
dumping state (probably corrupted stack)
  94047 [unknown (0x8CC)] dynamips 3952 open_stackdumpfile: Dumping stack trace
to dynamips.exe.stackdump
================================================

Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance..

Hi greg,

I try to run multiple dynamips on different machine to scale the virtual network. But when its running why can not ping each other. For example i put R1 on machine 1 and R2 and FRSW on machine 2.
When it running R1 and R2 do not see each other.
thanks in advance.
Bellow is my config:

# Working with multiple dynamips servers

# A windows server (the local machine)

[localhost]

    [[3640]]
    image = D:\Program Files\Dynamips\images\c3640-jsx-mz.123-14.T7x.BIN
    ram = 128

    [[ROUTER R1]]
    model = 3640
    autostart = false
    # Connect to s1/0 on R2 running on a different server
    S1/0 = F1 1

# SR server

Greg&Chris, Thank you for your reply. I tried different values and it seems that you're right about the router clock. The IRQ keeps increasing until it increases the drift time and then it reset and keeps incrementing again!

Anyway, I found 2 bugs in Dynagen that you may wish to look into:

1st, if you "stop Rx" and then accidentally do "idlepc showdrift Rx" then both dynagen and dynamips crash!

2nd, if you chanage the sleep time to other value (i tried a value of "1") that will make the CPU to go to 100% and will not go down even after setting back the sleeptime to 30 which is the default.

Another thing i found is that when i set the idlemax to a value that makes the CPU %age to go low (but of course the drift time increases!) i found that when the router is busy (maybe generating the running config by the "show run") the the IRQ does not keep incrementing and therefore never resets the drift timer. So my guess is that if i'm running some routing protocols such as BGP etc, that may also keep the router busy and thus keep the drift timer steady! However, I haven't try that yet! it just an assumption which i hope it's true! :)

digital,
Thank Chris, he actually added the hypervisor support for this series of commands a little while back and I just got around to adding it in dynagen. You can see the drift timer with "idlepc showdrift". It should output something like this (the router you want to see info on is 'r1' in this case):

=> idlepc showdrift r1
Current idlemax value: 1500
Current idlesleep value: 30
Timer Drift: 1
Pending Timer IRQ: 45

Here, my timer drift is "1".

Hi Chris,
Thank you for your explanation. How can i see the drift timer? Is it a command on the IOS or Dynagen?

Lastly, if u don't mind to tell, when is the new release of Dynamips with the STP bug-fix that i mentioned earlier?

Thanks a lot guys and sorry for disturbing ur lifes! :)
